Directed by Ed Bartram 'I can see you despise me. And that’s fine. At the moment you can afford to. But I’ll tell you something: we all turn, Jo, into the kind of people we used to despise.' Elizabeth is vulnerable, her husband has walked out. An innocuous interview about shopping lures her and her 15 year-old daughter, Jo, into a world of manipulation, deceit and predatory men. Nothing can be taken at face value, nothing is quite what it seems. Not least frozen pizzas. Market research provides the backdrop for what might be termed a comedy, but some subjects are just too close to the bone. Waxwing Theatre, a dynamic new theatre company, provides a rare opportunity to see an early work by one of Britain’s most accomplished playwrights. Martin Crimp became a central figure on the new writing scene after the Royal Court theatre staged this play in 1990, and was an important influence on playwrights such as Sarah Kane. Subsidised rehearsal space facilities provided by the Jerwood Space, Moving East and Moving Arts Base Cast includes Nuala Calvi, James Finnegan, Stephanie Goodfellow, Lindesay Mace, Simon Norbury and Tony Rowden.
