Policy

We aim to present an eclectic mix of theatre arts to stimulate and entertain our loyal audiences and develop new ones. Opera, new plays, classics, cabaret and all manner of things in between are selected very carefully to maintain our reputation for high quality which we have nurtured since we took over in 1996. We do one in house production a year and occasionally co-produce with companies we have worked with before.

Capacity

Seats 57 and can take 65 with an extra row at the front.

Stage Area

6 m. wide by 5.7 m. Actors entrance is stage left, alternatively actors can enter down the centre aisle through the auditorium.

Lighting

12 channel Jester desk and 2 dimmer packs, with capacity to take 2 more.

Sound

Choice of CD, professional standard mini disc or even cassette operated from lighting box to speakers above the stage. Small mixing desk.

Box Office and Front of House

We will log all bookings taken from the answer machine in the office, and sell tickets before the show. Box office money will be put in the pub safe after curtain up. This is covered in detail on our hire contract.

Technical Support

We have a pool of stage managers, lighting designers and technicians who will be delighted to do your show, they cost extra depending how many hours they are needed teching, and the length and complexity of your show. You are welcome to use your own providing they respect the equipment and have a basic knowledge of how our lighting board works.

Piano

Excellent quality (but tatty looking) upright, black lacquer Yamaha.

Get in/out

Get in can be on Sunday night after the previous show has got out leaving you Monday and Tuesday to set up and tech/dress. Shows usually open on Tuesdays.

After your last performance you must clear the stage immediately please and remove all set, props and costumes, including rubbish, within 2 days.

Hire charge

£1000 per week This includes:

  • A place in our seasonal leaflet (10,000 copies printed) and as many copies as you need to distribute around town
  • E-mail publicity to everyone on our press list (approx 50) and e-mailing list (approx 1,600)
  • Box office and front of house
  • Some rehearsal space depending on other bookings.

This does not include:

  • Technical support
  • Individual companies' flyers/posters or programmes

N.B. One week's rent is required as a deposit when signing our standard theatrical hire contract

General

There is no limit on number of performances, although our norm is Tuesday-Saturday @ 7.30pm and Sunday show @ 4.00 pm, no show Mondays. You keep all box office monies after hire charge has been paid in full. Suggested ticket prices are between £10.00 and £5.00 concessions which includes OAPs, students, Equity members and those on benefits or unemployed.

The function room may be used as a dressing room but the pub has priority if it is needed for party lettings after the show and should at all times be kept clean and tidy. On party nights everything from the function room must go into the theatre as soon as the show is finished please.
