Some family secrets ache to be unearthed! Then again, some are
too hellish to warrant it.
Set against a backdrop of the rural midlands of Ireland, Marina
Carr's acclaimed play brings to light a story of three generations,
blighted by relations that descend far beyond the realms of normality.
Marina Carr's best-knows works include Portia Coughlin, By
The Bog of Cats, Ariel and most recently Woman &
Scarecrow.
On Raftery's Hill was originally commissioned for
Ireland's Druid Theatre and co-produced by Druid and the Royal Court
Theatre. It premiered in Galway in 2000.
Liisa Smith has completed an MA in Text & Performance at RADA specialising
in directing. Co-founder of StageSpell Theatre Company, her previous
credits include an open-air production of The Dark Lady of
the Sonnets in Estonia, and a widely-acclaimed production
of The Highway Crossing at the Blue Elephant Theatre
and The Arcola in June- July 2006, which won the Time Out critics'
choice award as well as high praise from the national press.
